The Irish birth marriage and death indexes, which were released with great fanfare on the government website www.irishgenealogy.ie last year and quickly withdrawn for security reasons, have been released again.  However, this time the public can only view the index entries for births over 100 years, marriages over 75 years and deaths over 50 years.

Irishgenealogy.ie is a free website that also includes digitised and indexed church records for Dublin City, Kerry and parts of Cork and Carlow.   Now members of the public can use this website to look up the registration reference details for Irish births, marriages and deaths.  The indexes commence in 1864 for births and deaths and 1845 for non Roman Catholic marriages.  Roman Catholic marriages were registered from 1864.

The Irish birth marriage and death indexes are also available online at the free www.familysearch.org as well as at www.ancestry.com and www.findmypast.ie.  All three sites host the same index, which was compiled by volunteers from the Church of the Latter Day Saints.  The indexes at www.irishgenealogy.ie originated from the General Register Office and may include entries that are missing from the former.

Of course once you find the Irish birth marriage and death indexes for your ancestor, you will still need to order a copy of the registration entry or certificate.  You can use Timeline’s Genealogy Clerk service to obtain a copy of a birth, marriage or death registration once you have located the reference in the index.
