Other Manuscript Requests
If you have identified a manuscript or publication that is located in the National Library of Ireland or National Archives or another repository in the Dublin area and you wish to obtain a digital image of the item for your own research purposes, you can use the form at the end of the page to outline your request.
We will then respond with a quote for the cost of copying this material on your behalf.
For example, the National Library of Ireland holds extensive collections of family papers, which can include 18th and 19th century estate records. Many of these collections have been listed in the NLI’s Manuscript Collection Lists, which are published on their website. The collection list for the Bessborough Estate, for example, lists rentals for the Kilkenny, Tipperary, Waterford and Carlow Estates of the Bessborough Family, which commence in 1826. You can use the form above to order copies of the rental book entries for a specific family or townland on the Bessborough Estate in Carlow, using the manuscript number recorded on the collection list and a description of what you hope to find in the record.
These manuscript sources vary in volume and length and before we can determine the cost of obtaining the copies you require, we must first determine the amount of time that will be required to fulfill your order. If you have identified manuscripts in the National Library or National Archives catalogues, please fill in the form with the details and we will let you know the cost of obtaining full digital images of the relevant documents and the amount of time it will take to complete your request.
Obtaining copies of manuscripts is currently taking between 1 and 3 weeks to complete, urgent cases can be expedited.
